The marvels of marine life

The Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre is home to more than 70,000 animals, from translucent jellyfish and Arctic beluga whales to tropical piranhas and Pacific salmon. In all, the Aquarium houses some 300 fish species, 230 invertebrate, 66 reptiles and amphibians, and numerous mammal and seabird species.

If you look closely at the Vancouver Aquarium domestic rate (51¢) stamp that celebrates the Aquarium’s 50th anniversary, you’ll see a child pressed up against the glass watching the awesome antics of a beluga whale, the Aquarium’s most popular attraction.

Though the Vancouver Aquarium is known around the world as Canada’s largest ocean exhibit, its work extends far beyond its displays. Researchers involved with the Aquarium study Pacific whales and other marine species, and share their findings with scientists from other nations. Teeming with flora and fauna and marine life of all kinds, the Vancouver Aquarium and its water wonders give us a glimpse at the secrets of the sea.
