Celebrating the magic of words

to or read? Maybe you’ve even tried to write your own. That’s exactly what a young Farley Mowat did.

Today Farley Mowat is one of Canada’s most widely read authors, and one of several world-famous Canadian writers published by McClelland & Stewart. Over the past 100 years, this great Canadian company has played an important role in shaping our country’s identity and culture by publishing a wide selection of fiction, non-fiction and poetry from extraordinary Canadians, including Lucy Maud Montgomery, Mordecai Richler and Margaret Atwood.

The written word is truly magical. A special domestic rate (51¢) stamp, showing a horse and charioteer emerging from a book that looks like a laptop computer, celebrates McClelland & Stewart’s century of legendary leadership and tries to capture some of that magic.
