Taking care of business

If you’ve ever dreamed of joining the circus (and haven’t we all?), you might have wondered if you should prepare yourself with a few classes in trapeze swinging and clowning, or maybe even an introductory course in the history of human cannonballs. So, it may surprise you to know that Robert L. Blain, the Chief Financial Officer of the world-famous circus show Cirque du Soleil, actually studied at Canada’s historic first business school, the École des hautes études commerciales of Montréal (HEC Montréal). A business school is where you can learn all about running a business from accounting to entrepreneurship to human resources to information technology. And, of course, a circus is also a business. Many famous and successful people have graduated from HEC Montréal.

HEC Montréal is a fascinating school with a history that’s been shaped by remarkable people and crowned by many achievements and successes. In honour of the school’s 100th birthday, on April 21, 2007, Canada Post issued a commemorative domestic rate (52¢) stamp in March 2007.
