Great Canadian gardens
Gardens come in all shapes and sizes, but each one has its secrets. In even the tiniest city gardens, you’ll find all kinds of hidden things—bulbs that sleep over the winter, creeping plants that spread under the soil, blossoms emerging under trees and out of ponds, and above all, the many creatures that make gardens their home. Gardens are not just beautiful places to be; they’re also valuable habitats for wildlife.
Along with stamp collecting, gardening is one of the most popular hobbies in Canada, so what could be better than stamps showing gardens? This spring, Canada Post issues a set of four domestic rate (51¢) stamps featuring four different types of beautiful Canadian gardens. Follow the creature depicted on each stamp to discover its favourite garden habitat.
The butterfly floats and flutters as it finds its way to the bright and showy blooms of a flower garden. The warbler sings its birdsong under the dark, cool leaves of a shade garden. The salamander flicks its tail as it scurries among the stones of a rock garden. The dragonfly hovers hungrily over ponds as it searches for insects in a water garden. |
