A regal stamp
In May 2005, Her Majesty the Queen visited Saskatchewan and Alberta to help celebrate the centennial of these provinces’ entry into Canadian Confederation. A photograph of the Queen taken during this visit—her 23rd to Canada—is featured on the beautiful stamp that Canada Post issued on November 16, 2006.
Elizabeth II became Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in 1952. In addition, she is Head of the Commonwealth of which Canada is a part.
Here are some other interesting facts about Her Majesty the Queen:
- Her first visit to Canada was in 1951, while she was still Princess Elizabeth
- In 1967, she came to Canada to attend Centennial anniversary celebrations and visit Expo 67
- She opened the Games of the XXI Olympiad in Montréal in 1976
This Queen definitive is a “PERMANENT™” or “non-denominated” stamp. This means that instead of a price, the stamp features an icon, the letter “P” within a maple leaf, indicating that the stamp is valid for indefinite use within Canada.
