How to determine the number of pieces you need
Reach more than 13 million mailboxes across Canada, or target just one delivery route. To establish the ideal number of pieces for your campaign, do one of the following:
- Use the new and exciting interactive targeting, pricing and order application. Precision Targeter makes it easier for small and medium sized Unaddressed Admail customers to execute Unaddressed Admail mailings and get the most out of marketing campaigns.
- Use our online tool to determine current and upcoming numbers/counts required for delivery to your target areas.
- Use our targeting service, Data & Targeting Solutions, which will generate a report summarizing the number of pieces you need to mail.
- Subscribe to receive raw Postal Code data files.
The minimum number you can send is a single delivery route. You cannot mail to specified streets and/or buildings. Your mail will be delivered to the entire delivery route.
If you don't provide enough pieces, we will deliver all of the pieces you give us. You may select the delivery routes that will receive less than complete delivery by submitting your order online using Electronic Shipping Tools, Precision Targeter, or by specifying the quantities on your Admail Delivery Slip.
How targeting can help
Take advantage of the many benefits of targeting:
Selection
Send mail to houses, apartments, farms, or businesses. Choose 1 or any
combination of the 4.
Savings
Make the most of your advertising dollars by sending mail only to Canadians who want to receive Unaddressed Admail—referred to as Consumers' Choice. We will not deliver to consumers who have indicated (directly on their mailbox) that they don't want to receive unaddressed material. Some exceptions apply.
Convenience
When you choose to target urban areas, online maps will show you which streets a delivery route covers. Remember that your campaign must cover an entire delivery route.
Accuracy
Neighbourhoods frequently change—new houses are built, businesses open and close, people move. These updates are reflected in Residential and Business Counts. These counts also include the number of businesses on each route. Be sure to refer to these counts before each mailing to ensure you have the most current information available.
Precision
Identify your preferred routes with our free targeting service Data & Targeting Solutions. Select your ideal target audience using criteria such as:
- where they live
- what they look like (age, income, family size, etc.)
- spending habits
- type of media they read, listen to, or watch
- for businesses, variables such as number of employees, type of industry, annual revenue, etc.
Assurance - track your mailing
From our Online Business Centre, you can confirm the deposit date and forecasted delivery date of your mailing. This will help you plan for responses to your campaign. Access our FREE 'Track a Mailing' option by using the fully-featured version of our Electronic Shipping Tools or Precision Targeter.
Save time and enjoy planning your mailing
The new Precision Targeter application consists of three easy-to-use integrated components: Targeting, Pricing and Ordering. You can simply let the application guide you through the process!
- Targeting
Highlights include:
- View web-based interactive maps and analysis.
- Select variables to describe the mail piece (size, weight, timing, audience and budget).
- Define Target areas using selection tools such as: drawing a polygon, defining a radius, drive time, drive distance from a point on the map, etc…
- Accept suggested routes to help optimize your target audience
- Save the targeting analysis for later use or forward to a Value-Added Mailer to prepare the Unaddressed Admail mailing.
- Note identified High Demand Routes to assist in the planning of future campaigns (the High Demand Route Premium will be implemented on April 23, 2012).
- Pricing
As you plan and redefine your campaign targeting requirements, you can:
- Dynamically estimate Basic or Premium postage costs based on your applicable Unaddressed Admail contract prices.
- View the High Demand Routes to assist in planning future campaigns.

Repositionable Notes |
Remember, your goal is to get noticed, get opened, get read, and get a response. Push the envelope with formats and options designed to attract your customers' interest:
- Instead of sending rectangular or square items, try sending bigger, more enticing direct mail packages, catalogues and product samples. You can even cut Direct Mail into an unusual shape—called die-cut—which may be more eye-catching.
- Consider other engaging elements such as sticky-notes and scratch-and-sniff scents.

Use our Business Reply Mail™ service with your campaign. These envelopes, cards or labels allow your customers to reply to you at no expense to them.
When will your mail get there
Service standards are estimates of how long it will take for your mail to be transported and delivered. Service standards are not guaranteed. Two primary factors affect service standards for your Unaddressed Admail pieces: transportation time and delivery cycle. Add the 2 together to estimate when your campaign will reach your target audience.
Transportation time – number of business days to move your mail from the Canada Post facility where you dropped it off to the delivery office. Transportation time is not required if you drop off your mail at the same office that will be delivering it.
| Local* | 2 business days |
| Within a Province | 3 – 4 business days |
| National | 3 – 13 business days |
*For urban areas this includes the delivery offices within that major centre (e.g. Greater Toronto Area). For rural areas, local is when the drop-off location is the same as the office for final sort and delivery—from where the carriers deliver the mail.
Delivery cycle – number of business days required to complete delivery. The type of delivery route, size and the weight determine the delivery cycle.
